What is the difference between a Regular Clean and Periodontal Therapy?
Many patients ask why they need "Periodontal Therapy" instead of a standard "Scale and Polish." While a regular hygiene appointment cleans above and just below the gum line, Periodontal Therapy is a deep cleaning procedure designed to treat active infection below the gums.
Why is deep cleaning essential? If you have pockets deeper than 4mm, a standard clean cannot reach the bacteria destroying your bone. Periodontal therapy physically removes this deep infection, allowing your gums to heal and reattach to the teeth.
