Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body, essential for bone strength, muscle contraction, nerve signalling, and blood clotting. Blood calcium is tightly regulated by parathyroid hormone and vitamin D.
Who Should Consider the Calcium Test?
Individuals with suspected parathyroid disease, osteoporosis, kidney stones, or vitamin D deficiency. Those with symptoms such as muscle cramps, tingling, fatigue, or bone pain.
Adjusted calcium (corrected for albumin levels) is the standard reported measurement. Persistently elevated calcium warrants investigation of parathyroid hormone levels to rule out primary hyperparathyroidism.
A 24-hour urine collection is required: a trained nurse will give you the collection container and clear instructions, and you simply collect all urine passed over a 24-hour period at home before returning the sample to our clinic.
